Brewing Up Some Magic: A DIY Guide to Making Your Own Mushroom Tincture

Mushroom tinctures have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for good reason. Not only do they offer a unique and delicious way to consume mushrooms, but they also provide numerous health benefits. In this article, we will show you how to make your own mushroom tincture using antler reishi and turkey tail mushrooms.

What is a Mushroom Tincture?

A mushroom tincture is a concentrated liquid extract of mushrooms that has been steeped in alcohol, vinegar, or glycerin. This extraction process helps to release the medicinal compounds in the mushrooms, making them more easily absorbed by the body. Mushroom tinctures can be taken orally, added to food or drinks, or applied topically to the skin.

Making Your Own Mushroom Tincture

To make your own mushroom tincture, you will need the following:

  • 1 cup of dried mushrooms (we used antler reishi grown locally in Hawai'i and turkey tail mushrooms foraged and harvested in our jungle)

  • 2 cups of high-proof alcohol (such as vodka or grain alcohol)

  • A glass jar with a tight-fitting lid

  • A dark, cool place for storage

Instructions:

  1. Begin by cleaning your mushrooms. If you are using wild mushrooms like turkey tail, be sure to properly identify them and avoid any poisonous varieties. Cut them into small pieces to make them easier to steep.

  2. Place your dried mushrooms in a glass jar and cover them with 2 cups of high-proof alcohol. Be sure to use a jar with a tight-fitting lid to prevent evaporation.

  3. Seal the jar tightly and shake it vigorously to ensure that the mushrooms are fully submerged.

  4. Store the jar in a dark, cool place for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar once a day to help the extraction process.

  5. After 4-6 weeks, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean glass jar. Be sure to squeeze out all the liquid from the mushrooms.

  6. Store the tincture in a cool, dark place. It can last for up to two years if stored properly.

The Benefits of Antler Reishi and Turkey Tail Mushrooms

Antler reishi and turkey tail mushrooms are two of the most popular mushrooms used in tinctures because of their numerous health benefits.

Antler reishi mushrooms are known for their immune-boosting properties. They contain beta-glucans, which help to stimulate the immune system and reduce inflammation. They are also rich in antioxidants and can help to support liver function.

Turkey tail mushrooms are rich in polysaccharides, which have been shown to have anti-tumor and immune-boosting properties. They also contain antioxidants and can help to improve gut health and reduce inflammation.

When consumed in tincture form, these mushrooms can provide all of these health benefits in a concentrated and easily digestible form. They can also help to support overall health and wellbeing.

Conclusion

Making your own mushroom tincture is a great way to reap the health benefits of mushrooms. With a little patience and some quality ingredients, you can create a powerful and effective natural remedy that can help to boost your immune system, reduce inflammation, and support overall health and wellbeing.
