Spice Up Your Life: The Benefits of Making Your Own Fire Cider

Fire cider is a popular herbal tonic that's made by combining organic healing herbs and medicinal foods with raw honey and apple cider vinegar. This powerful elixir has been used for centuries to boost the immune system, improve circulation, aid in digestion, and clear sinus congestion. And the best part is, you can make it yourself at home with just a few simple ingredients!

To make fire cider, you'll need:

  • Fresh horseradish root

  • Fresh ginger root

  • Fresh turmeric root

  • Fresh garlic cloves

  • Fresh onion

  • Lemon and/or other citrus

  • Healing herbs ( I used Calendula, Rosemary, Hawaiian chili pepper, Oregano, Sage)

  • Apple cider vinegar (with the mother)

Each of these ingredients has its own unique healing properties. Horseradish root, for example, is a natural antibiotic and decongestant, while ginger and turmeric are anti-inflammatory and help boost circulation. Garlic and onion are both immune-boosting and have antiviral and antibacterial properties. Citrus are rich in vitamin C, which is essential for immune function. And raw honey and apple cider vinegar are both alkalizing and help support overall health and digestion.

To make fire cider, start by chopping all of the ingredients into small pieces and placing them in a large glass jar. Then cover the mixture with apple cider vinegar and stir well. Add a generous amount of raw honey to sweeten the mixture and balance out the acidity of the vinegar. Seal the jar tightly and let it sit for 8 weeks, shaking the jar every few days to mix the ingredients.

Once the fire cider has infused for 8 weeks, strain out the solids and transfer the liquid to a clean jar. You can store it in the fridge for up to 6 months.

To use fire cider as medicine, take 1-2 tablespoons per day, either on its own or mixed into food or drink. You can also use it as a salad dressing, marinade, or even in cocktails!

A few tips to keep in mind:

  • Use organic ingredients whenever possible to avoid exposure to pesticides and other chemicals.

  • Choose a high-quality apple cider vinegar with the mother, which contains beneficial bacteria and enzymes.

  • Adjust the amount of honey to suit your taste preferences. Some people prefer a sweeter fire cider, while others like it more tangy.

Making your own fire cider is a fun and easy way to support your health and wellness. Give it a try and let us know how it turns out in the comments!
